Reuters blundert met bericht over Canon
After announcing bright and early this morning that Canon is planning to stop development of new film cameras, Reuters issued a speedy correction.
In the corrected story, the slowdown in both the analogue and digital camera markets may cause Canon to consider whether or not to continue with the development of film cameras. (Vertaling: Het inzakken van zowel de analoge als de digitale cameramarkt zou ertoe kunnen leiden dat Canon zou kunnen overwegen om al of niet voort te gaan met de ontwikkeling van analoge camera's).
In the original story, Reuters reports that "Canon's decision follows an announcement earlier this year by rival Nikon Corp that it would stop producing most of its film cameras except for a few professional products," whereas in the second version the sentence begins "Canon's statement."
Canon stopt dus NIET met het ontwikkelen van nieuwe analoge camera's, laat staan met het produceren van bestaande modellen.
De volledige rectificatie van Reuters:
CORRECTED: Canon considers halt to film camera development

OFFICIAL CORRECTION: please see change in headline to read "Canon considers halt to film camera development." Also in first paragraph please read ....that it would consider halting development.... instead of ....that it would halt.... and in second paragraph please read ....it would consider whether it needs to continue developing.... instead of ....it made the decision to freeze.... and in fourth paragraph please read ....Canon's statement.... instead of ....Canon's decision....
A corrected version follows.
TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's Canon Inc. said on Thursday that it would consider halting development of new film cameras as it focuses resources on digital models, the latest sign of the rapidly fading role of film in photography.
A spokesman at Canon, the world's largest digital camera maker, said it would consider whether it needs to continue developing both compact and single lens reflex (SLR) film models because the markets for both are shrinking.
Canon said it would continue to produce and sell existing models and make a final judgment on the business in the future while monitoring market demand.
Canon's statement follows an announcement earlier this year by rival Nikon Corp. that it would stop producing most of its film cameras, expect for a few professional products.
Tot zover Reuters. Maar nog één keer voor wie het nog niet snapt:
To be clear, Canon has not stated that it is halting development of film cameras - be they SLRs or compact models. Instead, the company has basically suggested that it is continuing to evaluate the market, so as to determine how much longer its development of new models (and production of existing models) should continue.
